Bloomberg: When Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni visited Beijing, she and President Xi Jinping discussed issues about Ukraine. Could Foreign Ministry elaborate on what they spoke about? Did Meloni attempt to persuade the Chinese side to change its stance on Russia?

Lin Jian: During President Xi Jinping’s meeting with visiting Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, they had in-depth exchange of views on bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest. On the Ukraine crisis, China is committed to promoting talks for peace, and welcomes and supports all effort conducive to the peaceful settlement of the crisis. China stands ready to maintain communication with relevant parties, including Italy, to promote continued effort in the international community to create conditions for the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis through dialogue and negotiation.

Lin Jian: This year marks the 75th anniversary of China-Russia diplomatic ties and the first year of the China-Russia Years of Culture. China stands ready to work with Russia to follow the fundamental guidance of the common understandings between the two presidents, further enhance mutual trust, expand cooperation, carry forward our friendship, and elevate bilateral relations to a new level.
