Chinese vice premier urges stronger strategic dialogue between China, U.S.

    NEW YORK, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan said here Friday that China and the United States should strengthen their strategic dialogue to enhance understanding and trust and facilitate the long-term, stable and sound development of Sino-U.S. constructive cooperation.

    Establishing and developing constructive relations between Beijing and Washington is a historic inevitability, the vice premier said at a meeting with former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

    Wang praised Kissinger for his important contributions to the development of Sino-U.S. relations.

    The world cannot return to the Cold War era, because the people won't let that happen, the human race cannot tolerate another Cold War, nor will politicians' intellect allows for it, Wang said.

    Kissinger, for his part, said the overall stable development of U.S.-China relations over the long term is a reflection of the interests of both countries.

    At a time when great changes are happening in the world, the U.S-China relationship is an important factor in world peace and prosperity and the two sides should strengthen and expand their strategic dialogue in various fields, Kissinger said.

    Wang arrived in New York on Friday after co-chairing the 4th session of the China-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue in Annapolis, Maryland, and meeting U.S. President George W. Bush and U.S. lawmakers in Washington.

    The vice premier and his entourage will depart for Beijing later Friday.

Chinese vice premier calls for boosting constructive, cooperative ties with U.S.

    NEW YORK, June 20 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan on Thursday underlined the importance of his country's constructive and cooperative relationship with the United States, saying ties can develop further as long as both sides settle differences through dialogue.

    China and the U.S. have developed closer links in trade, investment and other areas, and have cooperated more closely in safeguarding regional stability and promoting world peace and development, Wang told a group of U.S. business and financial leaders at a welcome banquet hosted by the Financial Services Forum, the American Bankers' Association and the Asia Society. U.S. business leader urges continued strategic economic dialogue with China

    NEW YORK, June 20 (Xinhua) -- A leading U.S. business leader said here Friday that the U.S.-China Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) has played an important role in bilateral economic and trade cooperation and that the SED should continue in a sustained and effective manner.

    At a meeting with visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan, Harold McGraw III, chairman of Business Roundtable, an association of chief executive officers of leading U.S. companies, suggested that business leaders of the two countries should also establish and hold such dialogues as an effective complement to government-to-government dialogue. Bush meets with Chinese vice premier, lauds strategic economic dialogue

    WASHINGTON, June 18 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President George W. Bush met with Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan in the White House Wednesday and applauded the results of the fourth Sino-U.S. Strategic Economic Dialogue (SED) that concluded earlier in the day.

    Bush said the 10-year energy and environment cooperation framework signed after the SED talks demonstrated that China and the United States have broad shared interests in the area and that both sides are serious on the issue of environmental protection. Full story

U.S., Chinese companies sign 71 contracts worth $13.6 bln

    WASHINGTON, June 16 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from U.S. and Chinese companies on Monday signed 71 contracts and agreements worth 13.6 billion U.S. dollars in total in Missouri and Washington D.C.

    The deals were made at two ceremonies in St. Louis, Mo., and here, and both were attended by visiting Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan. Full story

China, U.S. to hold 4th strategic economic dialogue

    BEIJING, June 5 (Xinhua) -- China and the United States would hold the fourth Strategic Economic Dialogue on June 17-18 in Annapolis, Maryland, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang announced here Thursday.

    Chinese Vice Premier Wang Qishan and U.S. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson will co-chair the meeting as special representatives of state leaders of the two countries, Qin told a regular press conference. Full story
