BEIJING, June 24 (Xinhua) -- China will ratify two bilateral treaties co-signed with Algeria on judicial cooperation and extradition.

The Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC),the country's top legislature, on Tuesday started to review a motion by the State Council, China's Cabinet, to approve the two treaties. It was hearing an explanation given by Foreign Affairs Vice Minister Wu Dawei commissioned by the government.

With the development of the Sino-Algerian relationship, criminal cases involving the two countries' people increased, Wu said. Therefore, it was essential to establish cooperation on extradition and other judicial works with Algeria for cracking down on crimes.

The 24-itemed treaty on judicial cooperation mainly regulates the conditions of one side's requests for judicial assistance from the other and the procedures of the assistance.

The 22-itemed treaty on extradition mainly concerns the details of the judicial organs of both sides to surrender each other's criminal suspects.

The treaties were co-signed in Beijing in 2006.

The NPC Foreign Affairs Committee supported the approval saying the treaties complied with the basic principles of China's laws and the needs of judicial practices.
