China becomes observer at Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas

BEIJING, July 22 (Xinhua) -- The National People's Congress (NPC), China's legislature, has become an observer of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum of the Americas (FIPA), according to a press release from the NPC here on Tuesday.

Emmanuelle Pelletier, secretary of the FIPA, sent a message to Li Jianguo, vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee recently, to confirm the NPC as a permanent observer.

Li said in a message in return that the NPC would work with the FIPA members to promote friendly relations between China and the American nations and contribute to a harmonious world of lasting peace and common prosperity.

The FIPA, established in 2001, is a regional organization composed of 35 members of the American countries, including the United States, Canada and Brazil.

The NPC has participated in 12 international and regional parliamentary organizations and become an observer at four multilateral forums.
