BEIJING, July 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Hu Jintao said here on Saturday more meticulous efforts should be made for the success of the imminent Olympic Games.

"Hosting a successful Olympics and a Paralympics is now top priority of the country," Hu said at a group study of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, stressing China should fulfill its commitments to the world.

Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, asked related staff and officials to host a grand sporting event that satisfied the international community, domestic and foreign athletes and the Chinese people.

The Olympics and Paralympics belonged to not only the Chinese people, but people from all over the world, he said.

"We would like to promote the understanding and friendship between China and the world via our successful hosting of the Olympics and Paralympics."

Claiming that a "solid basis" has been laid for the Olympics and Paralympics, Hu urged officials to continue with the preparations for the smooth operation of events and venues during the Games.

Overseas guests should be received with the utmost hospitality by Chinese people to make them feel at home, he said.

Meanwhile, host cities should guarantee a smooth and orderly operation for both the sporting events and the city's daily life during the Games.

In addition, the broad masses are urged to get involved in the Games with a good manner, and athletes, the staff and volunteers should demonstrate China's image and the image of the Beijing Olympics.

China should provide good media services to spread the happiness of watching Olympics to the world audience.

Hu further stressed the security work during Olympics and Paralympics.

The preparatory work for September's Paralympics should also be promoted, and all communities should pay great attention to the event, he said.

He emphasized that host cities and provinces and central government departments should go all out for sound preparations in the final phase and operations during the Games.

And different levels of Party committees and governments should place more importance to cooperating to host successful Olympics and Paralympics while doing a good job in developing economy, guaranteeing the people's livelihood and maintaining stability, the president said.
