Chinese premier arrives in New York for UN meetings

·Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in New York Tuesday to attend meetings at the headquarters of the UN.
·Wen will attend a high-level UN meeting and general debate of the 63rd UN General Assembly.
·Representatives from some 150 countries are expected to attend the MDGs summit.

UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao arrived in New York Tuesday to attend meetings at the headquarters of the United Nations.

During his three-day stay here, Wen will attend a high-level UN meeting for the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) Thursday and the general debate of the 63rd UN General Assembly Wednesday. He will address the two meetings to further outline China's development objectives.

Representatives from some 150 countries, including more than 90 heads of state or government, are expected to attend the MDGs summit, which will be convened by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon with the aim to generate further actions to realize the MDGs by 2015.

The summit will be the first of its kind on the MDGs since 2000,when world leaders committed themselves to the goals laid out in the Millennium Declaration.

The premier is also expected to meet world leaders, the UN secretary-general, overseas Chinese and foreign media during his stay in New York City.
