2007-10-31 00:00

The training course on Bamboo and Rattan weaving, which was disrupted by the assassination of a female instructor Jiang Chongyu, resumed its work on October 15, 2007.  With the help and support of the Chinese Embassy and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Liberia, the venue of the training course has been moved from Monrovia Vocational Training Center to the SKD Stadium which was recently renovated with the aid from the Chinese government.

Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao paid a visit to the instructors and learners on October 25. The five Chinese trainers told the Ambassador that they have basically overcame the psychological shock brought by the tragedy and were ready to continue the training program which was scheduled for two years.  They pledged to make up the lost caused by the sad incident by redoubling their teaching efforts.

Ambassador Zhou praised them for being courageous and calm in front of the unexpected tragedy in which they lost their dear colleague and friend, thanked them for continuing the training course that will facilitate the trainees to be employed or self employed and encouraged them to train as many local people as possible.

Mr. Zhou also had conversations with the trainees who were about 50 in number.  They came from different counties and would spend six months at the training course.  They told Ambassador that the skill they were learning could be very useful and practical and that they were confident that they could make livings when they go back to their counties and villages.  They asked Ambassador to give them tools when they leave Monrovia.  Mr. Zhou promised them that each of them would be given a set of tools by the Chinese government when they pass the test at the end of the course.
