Ministry of Health Holds Welcome Reception to 2nd Chinese Medical Team

The Ministry of Health of Liberia gave a welcome reception in honor of the Second Chinese Medical Team last Wednesday, November 14, 2007. The 9-member medical team arrived on October 17, 2007 to replace the first team that worked in the JFK medical centre for 2 years from October 2005 to October this year President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Vice President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao, doctors from Egypt, Nigeria and the Mercy Ship were also invited to the reception.

In his speech, Dr. Walter T. Gwenigale, Minister of Health of Liberia, extended warm welcome to the Chinese doctors and expressed gratitude to Chinese government for its support to Liberia by providing medicines, medical equipment and sending doctors to Liberia. Dr. Gwenigale sincerely wished the Chinese doctors a happy life and work experience in Liberia. The Health Minister further recalled the memorable moments when meeting the doctors at the First Hospital Attached to Jiamusi University from which the doctors came.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf also spoke on the occasion. Madam President warmly welcomed the members of the medical team and was appreciative of Chinese government's consistent support and assistance to Liberian government. The President of Liberia asked Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao to convey her regards to Chinese President Hu Jintao. Both the President and the Minister of Health also thanked the medical volunteers from other countries for their valuable services in Liberia.
