Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao and Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf visit Bamboo and Rattan Weaving Products Display

H.E. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao visited the Bamboo and Rattan Weaving Products Display organized by the Chinese Bamboo and Rattan Weaving Expert Team last Sunday, January 14, 2008.

 

Going into the bamboo house built by the Liberian trainees under the instruction of Chinese experts, President Sirleaf carefully examined the whole set of furniture made of bamboo and rattan including chairs, tables, beds and farm tools, and expressed her satisfaction on the quality and delicacy of the products. She thanked the Chinese experts for their excellent skills and fruitful teaching. She encouraged the trainees to work harder for a better future and self-reliance. Meanwhile, she promised that the government will carry on its support for the training course. Accompanying the President were ministers of foreign affairs, commerce and industry, gender and development, youth and sports as well as representatives from the delegates who are attending an international Women's meeting in Liberia.

 

Later in the day, Amb. Zhou also visited the display. He expressed his gratification over the high-level of skills demonstrated by the trainees after only four months of training. He encouraged the trainees to work hard and learn as many skills as possible from their Chinese instructors, so that they could make a living on their own skills and contribute to the development of their mother country.
