2008-02-27 00:00

Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao, on Tuesday, Feb. 26, paid acquaintance calls to major media houses including Daily Observer Newspaper, the Informer Newspaper, Truth FM, Real TV and Radio Veritas.

At his meetings with the management of the media houses, Amb. Zhou was briefed on their current situations. He expressed his appreciation to the media practitioners for their professionalism and devotion under immense difficulties. He said the media had a very important role to play in encouraging the Liberian people to have confidence in their country, which is blessed with rich resources, vast arable land and good climate and to overcome the temporary difficulties on their way forward. The media could promote the development of the nation by building up the spirit of the public through more positive reports on achievements, progress and success the nation has achieved. He also suggested the media to carry more reports on the successes and experience of other nations in their national development, so as to inspire the Liberian people to learn from others.

Amb. Zhou also talked about China's foreign policy, the concept of harmonious world and the factors contributing to his country's success. According to him, peace and stability are the basis for development in China and in any other country. Liberia has suffered a protracted civil conflict, said the Ambassador, and the media can play an indispensible role in educating the people to cherish the hard-earned peace and stability and unite themselves around the common goal of national reconstruction and renewal. China would continue its humble assistance to Liberia and more importantly, encourage more of its enterprises to invest in Liberia for win-win cooperation, he added.

The media houses welcomed Mr. Zhou's visit. They commended China for its role in the peace building and reconstruction process of Liberia. Some media staff who visited China recently said their visits have enabled them to have a more accurate picture about China. They pledged more objective reports on China for the better understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
