Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao Visits Lofa County

At the invitation of Liberian President Madam Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, Chinese Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao attended the Liberian Cabinet Retreat as a guest in Voinjama, capital city of Lofa County between March 17 and 20.

On the early morning of March 17, Amb. Zhou joined the presidential convoy and started the 16-hour journey to Voinjama. They made stopovers at various agricultural, medical, educational and business assistance projects sponsored by international partners, which offered the Ambassador a good opportunity to learn about the practices and experiences of foreign aid to Liberia by other countries and NGOs.

On March 18 and 19, Amb. Zhou observed discussions by Cabinet ministers on Poverty Reduction Strategy, met and exchanged ideas with various ministers and county superintendents concerning bilateral cooperation, China's assistance to Liberia and its participation in Liberia's poverty reduction process. He donated one 3 KW generator and some farming tools to Lofa County. He also take the Chinese Medical Team working in JFK Medical Center to Lofa to give free medical service to the local patients. President Sirleaf and other government officials honored both occasions and expressed their appreciation to China for its support to Liberia's reconstruction and development efforts.

During the intervals of the Cabinet Retreat, Amb. Zhou made a side trip to farming lands, local agricultural institutions and market places in Foya with a view to facilitate future possible cooperation in agriculture. He also briefed the local officials on how China managed to feed its population as big as 1.3 billion.

Amb. Zhou returned to Monrovia on March 20.
