H.E. Mr. Zhou Yuxiao, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, on January 8, 2009, inspected several China-aided projects near Monrovia and sent new year’s greetings to the Chinese aid workers.

at the main teaching building in Fendell

At the UL Fendell Campus project, Ambassador Zhou climbed up the uncompleted main teaching building, getting first-hand information before being briefed on the progress of the project by the project manager of Guangdong Xinguang International Group. He expressed satisfaction over the fast progress of the project and appreciation on the use of local log and bamboo for scaffolds, which, according to him, reduced cost and increased employment. He cautioned the company never sacrifice safety and quality in pursuit of speed. He expressed the hope that, with the Fendell project as a good beginning, the company will have a long-term investment in Liberia, making more contributions to the reconstruction of the country.

in the laboratory

Also in the Fendell Campus, the Chinese Ambassador inspected the renovation project of soil, computer and civil engineering laboratories. Currently, the renovation of water and power systems as well as the inner decoration has been completed. Soon, the laboratory equipment will be installed. He thanked the constructor, Xinjiang International Economic Cooperation Corporation, for completing the first stage in a very short time and urged them to attach importance to the training of local technicians and make sure that they grasp the knowledge and skills needed for operating the equipment.

at the construction site of the primary school

The last stop of the ambassador’s tour was a primary school in New Georgia. The project as well as two other primary schools was undertaken by Hunan Construction Engineering Group Corporation. At present, the main structures of the two schools near Monrovia have erected while the building of another school in Bomi will soon be started. All the three schools will be completed in the middle of 2009. When learning that some window frames were stolen from the construction site, Ambassador Zhou instructed the company and school authority to report to the Liberia National Police while strengthening security measures.

During his tour, Ambassador Zhou was accompanied by Mr. Liu Yunbiao, Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy.
