Charge d'Affaires a.i. Mr. Gou Haodong Atteding Chinese Peacekeeping Contingent Medal Awarding Ceremony

16 July 2009, Monrovia, Liberia-- Charge d'Affaires a.i. Mr. Gou Haodong attended Chinese Peace Peacekeeping Contingent UN Medal Awarding Ceremony held in Chinese Contingent Star Base July 16, 2009. Together, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) in Liberia, Ms. Ellen Margrethe Løj and Mr. Gou Haodong, Charge d'Affaires a.i. of Chinese Embaasy near Monrovia, awarded Chinese Peacekeepers the UN Peacekeeping Medals for their highly devoted and admirable contributions to the peace and stability of the postwar Liberia during the eight months period of duty as serving the UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL). During his remarks, Mr. Gou Haodong, Charge d'Affaires a.i. of Chinese Embaasy near Monrovia urged Chinese Peacekeepers to continue adhering to the path of good conduct and lead by example until the final successful handover of their duty to the successors of the 9th batch of Chinese Contingent in August.

On her part, recognizing the long commitment of the Chinese Government to peacekeeping operations, in general and to Liberia in particular, SRSG Løj expressed the sincere thanks from UNMIL leadership to the Chinese Contingent for their commitment and contribution to the peace and development of the postwar Liberia since 2003.

At the ceremony were Lt.-Gen. ATM Zahirul Alam, UNMIL Force Commander,  Mrs. Henrietta Joy Abena Nyarko Mensa-Bonsu, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Rule of Law, Lt.Colonel Liu Shengli, Military Attache of Chinese Embassy near Monrovia.

Chinese Peacekeeping Contingent in Liberia consists of three branches as Logistic Transportation Team, Medical Service Team and Engineering Team.
