China-aided Tappita Hospital in Liberia Officially Opens

Tappita, Liberia, Feb. 12-The Chinese Ambassador accredited to Liberia, Mr. Zhou Yuxiao, has assured the Liberian Government and people of more assistance from China in the coming years, during attending the opening ceremony of China-aided Tappita Jackson F. Doe Regional Referral Hospital in Nimba County.

Speaking Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, during the dedication and official opening of the hospital, Ambassador ZHOU Yuxiao said China would continue to play its meaningful and positive role in helping the Liberian Government and people in their national reconstruction and renewal drive.

The Chinese envoy said the dedication of the hospital was a huge step forward toward Liberia’s reconstruction. While congratulating the entire hospital staff for turning the huge building into a hospital with their skills and commitment, the Chinese envoy added that China is poised to train 25 Liberian medical personnel in China for the effective use and maintenance of the hospital modern equipments as part of its commitment to a tripartite agreement involving China, Egypt and Liberia.

When Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, cut the ribbon during the ceremony, the wordings engraved on the marble stone read: “The Jackson F. Doe Memorial Referral Hospital, a gift to the People of the Republic of Liberia from the Government and People of the People’s Republic of China under the agreement of the exchange of notes dated 28 December 2008 inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Liberia, H.E. Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Zhou Yuxiao, the 7th day of February 2011.”

The historic program was well attended by prominent citizens of the Liberian society including Foreign Minister Toga G. MacIntosh, Internal Affairs Minister Harrison Kanwea, Senator Adolphus Dolo, Representative Edwin Gaye, and Liberia’s Chief Medical Officer, Bernice Dahn etc..
