2011-05-19 22:30

MONROVIA, Liberia, May 18, 2011: The President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Cletus Segbe Wotorson has praised the bilateral ties that exist between the People’s Republic of China and Liberia.

The Senate Pro-Tempore expressed these sentiments on Wednesday, May 18, when the new Chinese ambassador accredited to Liberia, H. E. Zhao Jianhua paid a courtesy call on him at his Capitol Building office.

Senator Wotorson recalled that since the bi-lateral ties were established between the two countries in the 70s, China has made and continues to make significant contributions to the development of the West African nation.

He cited the Chinese’s role in the construction efforts of Liberia and its support to the health and educational programs of the country, including the construction of facilities at the U.L Fendell Campus and the Jackson F. Doe Memorial Hospital in Tappita, Nimba County.

Responding Ambassador Zhao said he was impressed with the level of progress the country has made since the government came to power some five years ago.

Ambassador Zhao said he is equally proud that Liberia continues to honor the One China Policy which has propelled his country to strengthen the bilateral relations between the legislatures of the two countries. He promised to do his outmost best during his tenure to enhance the already cordial relationship between the legislatures of the two countries.
