Successful experience

I. The project is greatly supported by FAO, Liberian MOA and Chinese MOA.

Under the supervision and technical guidance of FAO office in Liberia and the leadership of Chinese MOA and Chinese embassy in Liberia, and with the cooperation of Liberian MOA, China-Liberia SSC project worked smoothly and achieved many favorite results. FAO representative Mr. Scaglia, JeanAlexandre and other officials Assistant FAO Representative(Operating)   Mr. Boiwu, Joseph, Assistant FAO Representative(Admin) Mrs. Thelma Dahn-Debrah inspected the duty stations many times to assure that the project progressed well and the problems existing in the living and working conditions have been solved. Mr. Liu Zhongwei, from FAO headquarter, made an official visit to Chinese duty stations and shared the experience of other SSC projects, praised the work we've done and pointed out what the project will focus on for the next stage. FAO office has carried out monitoring and assessment twice and adjusted the work plan based on the reality conditions. Liberian MOA officials usually visited the duty stations to solve the existing problems Chinese team faced in life and work, and arranged 38 Liberian counterparts for close cooperation. Chinese ambassador and other officials from Chinese embassy in Liberia also visited SSC duty stations many times and encouraged Chinese specialists to overcome difficulties to make sure the project works well.

II. The project was widely publicized.

Firstly, FAO office, MOA and local media publicized the project widely. Through the propaganda, Liberian people got to know the project and the impact of the project have been enlarged. Secondly, the beneficiaries helped publicize the project to more people. Chinese SSC team usually sent the vegetable seeds, fertilizers and chemicals to local farmers and at the time, together with Liberian counterparts, transferred practical technologies to them. Most farmers increased their income greatly because of the technical and material assistance, which also encouraged the farmers around them to engage in agriculture. Thirdly, Chinese SSC team actively participated in agro-product exhibition on World Food Day and United Nation Day. The exhibition attracted more attention of the visitors and won the reputation for the project.

III. Chinese team cooperated with other projects actively.

Because many foreign-aid projects have the same objective of promoting the agricultural development in Liberia, Chinese SSC team made use of the advantage of agricultural technologies to cooperate with other projects in the special areas related with us.  This kind of cooperation increased the impact of the project without any increase of investment and budget. As a result, Chinese agricultural technologies were more widely spread and more local people benefited.
