Chinese Embassy in Liberia holds the "Chinese Ambassador Scholarship"Online award ceremony

On October 28th, Chinese Embassy in Liberia held an online awarding ceremony of "Chinese Ambassador Scholarship". Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Ren Yisheng, Hon. Latim Dathong, Deputy Minister for Administration, Ministry of Education of Liberia, Dr. Julius Sarwolo Nelson, President of the University of Liberia, Ms. Helen Kiamue, Market Officer/ Scholarship Coordinator of Cuttington University, Mr. Wesley, University Relations Officer of William V.S. Tubman University, representatives of award-winning students, media reporters and more than 30 people attended online.

Ambassador Ren said in his speech that education cooperation is an important area of cooperation between China and Liberia, and the education cooperation between the two countries has achieved fruitful results in recent years. This year, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia has maintained close cooperation with the Ministry of Education and universities to overcome the impact of COVID-19 and continue to support the construction of talents. The Chinese side is willing to work together with the Liberian side to strengthen the strategic docking between the "Eight major initiatives" and "Belt and Road Initiative" of China-Africa cooperation and the "Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development" put forward by H.E. President George Manneh Weah, so as to help Liberia achieve national development and prosperity. Ambassador Ren also encouraged the award-winning students to play an exemplary role, study deligently in their respective professional fields, and make achievements in their studies. They will become the pillars of promoting national development and national rejuvenation in the future. At the same time, they will continue to inherit and carry forward the friendship between the peoples of China and Liberia and contribute to the friendly relations of the two countries.

Hon. Latim Dathong, Deputy Minister of Education of Liberia delivered a speech on behalf of the Liberian government, thanking China for its long-term strong support for the education and human resources development of Liberia, saying that China is the most important study destination for overseas students, and Liberia is willing to further strengthen cooperation with China to promote the deepening development of educational cooperation and cultural exchanges between the two countries.

President Nelson thanked the Chinese Embassy for granting ambassadorial scholarships to the three universities in Liberia every year, which helped the majority of students realize their personal ideals and made great contributions to Liberia’s educational cause. Nelson also encouraged the award-winning students to make persistent efforts to contribute to peace and stability and strive to promote friendship between the two countries.

The representatives of the award-winning students delivered speeches one after another, expressing their gratitude for receiving the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship in the special period of fighting COVID-19 this year, thanking the Chinese Embassy for its valuable help and support, and expressing their readiness to make positive progress, study deligently and make their own contributions to deepening the friendship between the Chinese and Liberian peoples.
