China and Liberia Hold Consultation on Cooperation

On 20 January 2021, the Chinese ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng co-hosted a consultation on China-Liberia cooperation in the embassy together with the Liberian Minister of Finance Hon. Samuel Tweah. Minister of Agriculture Hon. Jeanie Cooper, Minister of Defense Daniel Ziankan, and Land Authority Chairman Hon. Adams Manobah from the Liberian side as well as Political Counsellor Mr. Xu Kun, Defense Attache Sen. Col. Han Xiao, and Economic and Commercial Counselor Mr. Li Jiang from the Chinese embassy and others attended the events.

 

Ambassador Ren spoke highly of the Liberia government's adherence to the one-China principle, and commended positively the friendly relations between China and Liberia and the exchanges and cooperation in economic, trade and agriculture areas between the two countries. He said that agricultural cooperation is an important part of the relations between the two countries. China is a large agricultural country with a broad market for agricultural and pastoral products. The prospects for agricultural cooperation between the two countries are bright. China is willing to work with Liberia to expand trade in agricultural products, strengthen cooperation in investment, technology, and human resource training, encourage Chinese enterprises to invest in Liberia, and dispatch agricultural expert groups to Liberia at an appropriate time to help Liberia improve agricultural production and promote pragmatic cooperation in various fields to achieve new results.

 

The Liberian side said that China is a close friend of Liberia and thanked the Chinese government for its important contribution to the economic and social development of Liberia. Liberia pays great attention to domestic food security issues and eagerly looks forward to the development of agricultural cooperation between Liberia and China, hopes to learn from China's successful experience in agricultural development and poverty eradication, and invites Chinese experts to come to Liberia to implement relevant assistance projects and technical training as soon as possible to promote the level of agricultural production, processing capacity, employment and independent development. Liberia is rich in agricultural resources. Rubber, cassava, cocoa, etc. are the main advantageous agricultural products which are hoped to export to the Chinese market in the future, and Chinese enterprises are welcome to invest in Liberia's agricultural industry.

 

The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as fishery, telecommunications, and infrastructure construction.
