On 22 January 2021, Chinese ambassador to Liberia H.E.Ren Yisheng attended the donation ceremony of anti-epidemic equipment for Liberia held at the JFK Hospital aided by the Chinese Government. Liberian Deputy Foreign Minister Korvah, Minister of Health Dr. Jalah, JFK Hospital CEO Dr. Brown, and Commercial Counselor Li Jiang from the Chinese embassy and the captain of the Chinese medical team Dr. Zhang Hao, and others attended the event.

Ambassador Ren said that in May 2020, Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping initially pledged at the 73rd World Health Assembly to establish the Cooperation Mechanism for Chinese Hospitals to Pair up with 30 African Hospitals to help Africa strengthen disease prevention and control capabilities. The JFK Hospital was selected to cooperate with Heilongjiang Provincial Hospital as paired hospitals. The donation of anti-epidemic equipment includes a ventilator and an oxygen generator, which is part of the cooperation mechanism project. In the future, the two hospitals will jointly carry out anti-epidemic cooperation, experience sharing, academic exchanges, remote diagnosis and consultation, and personnel training.

Ambassador Ren pointed out that since the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Liberian government and people have actively supported China's fight against the epidemic. The Liberian government has also provided facilitation for Covid-19 testing and treatment services for Chinese citizens in Liberia. The Chinese government, non-governmental organizations, Chinese-funded enterprises in Liberia and the local Chinese community in Liberia also donated several batches of medical and living supplies to Liberia. On January 11, the Chinese government also assisted Ribavirin medication with more than 20,000 boxes of injections and tablets and 1,800 sets of personal protective equipment(PPEs) to the National Public Health Institute to support Liberia's fight against Lassa fever and the Covid-19 epidemic. In the future, China will continue to firmly support Liberia's anti-epidemic work through bilateral and multilateral channels, and is willing to work with Liberia to jointly build a community of human health.

Deputy Minister Kovah commended China's achievements in fighting the Covid-19 epidemic and thanked the Chinese government and people for their support to Liberia in the area of medical and health care, especially the fight against Ebola and the Covid-19 epidemic. He believed that JFK will be able to provide better services after the Hospital is equipped with adequate medical and experimental equipment.

Minister Jalah thanked China for not forgetting other countries despite the very difficult conditions in the early stage of its own epidemic, and for providing medical material assistance and personnel training to other countries including Liberia. If needed, JFK Hospital and other health institutions will provide support to China at any time. In the future, Liberia will continue to strengthen cooperation with China in the field of health, including Covid-19 vaccine cooperation.
