On April 26, Chinese ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng was invited to attend the inauguration ceremony of the basketball team and basketball court of the Pototoree community in Congo town. Lebanese ambassador to Liberia H.E. Henri Kastoun, former deputy health minister of Liberia Dr. Mohammed S.Sheriff and representatives of relevant social organizations and media attended the event.

Ambassador Ren said in his speech that China and Liberia are good brothers, good friends and good partners. Since the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries, China has actively promoted exchanges and cooperation in various fields including peace, health, economy and trade, education, infrastructure and human resources development. In 2014, China rushed to assist Liberia to fight the Ebola epidemic. Since the global outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic last year, the two countries have worked together and helped each other to overcome the difficulties. Ambassador Ren emphasized that youth is the future of the nation, and community building and human resource training are vital to the development of young people. He hoped that young people will study hard, keep fit, and stay away from drugs and other unhealthy habits. China is ready to share development experiences with Liberia, continue to work to support Liberia's economic and social development, and strengthen cultural exchanges between the two countries, including young people, through scholarships and short-term training.

Ambassador Ren donated a batch of sports and digital supplies to the community basketball team on behalf of the Chinese embassy, watched the community basketball match and joined the players for a group photo.

In his speech, Dr. Sherifff emphasized that Liberia will continue to firmly support the one-China principle, and thanked China and other international partners for their contributions to the promotion of education and the development of youth in Liberia, and hoped that China and relevant parties in the international community will continue to contribute to the post-war reconstruction of Liberia and provide support for its development in various fields.
