Ambassador Ren Yisheng and President of Liberia H.E. George Manneh Weah Attend the Handover Ceremony of the Fourth Batch of Anti-epidemic materials between the Government of China and the Government of Liberia

On May 4, 2021, Chinese ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng and Liberia President H.E. Dr. George Manneh Weah attended the handover ceremony of the fourth batch of anti-epidemic materials between the Government of China and the Government of Liberia. Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Hon. Nathaniel F. McGill,Minister of Health Hon. Wilhemina S. Jallah and other senior government officials, Defense Attache Senior Colonel Han Xiao from the Chinese embassy and others participated in the event. Ambassador Ren and Foreign Minister Kemayah signed the handover certificate on behalf of their respective governments.

  

Ambassador Ren said in his speech that the Chinese and Liberian governments and their people have always looked out to each other and overcome the difficulties. China is thankful to President Weah, the government and people of Liberia for their support to China during the difficult time of the Covid-19 epidemic, and for providing facilitation such as virus testing, treatment and vaccination for Chinese citizens in Liberia. Meanwhile, China took the lead in assisting Liberia with a large amount of anti-epidemic materials and provided emergency food and other nutritional aids to Liberia. China will actively implement President Xi Jinping's important announcement on the use of vaccines as an international public good, and is willing to carry out related cooperation with Liberia. Ambassador Ren emphasized that under the joint guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Weah, the friendly and cooperative relations between China and Liberia have been deepen and strengthened, and the "Belt and Road" initiative has well docked with the "Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development". China will deepen all-round pragmatic cooperation with Liberia, and strengthen cooperation in the fields of infrastructure, agriculture, public health, and people-to-people exchanges.

   

In his speech, President Weah asked the ambassador to convey his greetings to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people. He said that the traditional friendship between Liberia and China will last forever and that China is a good partner of Liberia. On behalf of the Liberian government and people, he thanked China for its strong support for the Liberia's fight against epidemic and for the construction of Liberia in various fields, and emphasized that Liberia will unswervingly adhere to the One China policy.

Foreign Minister Kemayah thanked China in his remark for supporting Liberia in fighting the epidemic. He said that Liberia will firmly support the one-China policy and actively implement the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries to promote bilateral relations between China and Liberia to new heights.

Health Minister Jallah expressed her gratitude for China's fresh strong support to Liberia's fight against the epidemic, saying that when the Covid-19 epidemic broke out in Liberia, there were only a few ventilators in the country, and the oxygen generators and other anti-epidemic materials were also seriously insufficient. The anti-epidemic materials such as ventilators and oxygen generators donated by China will greatly improve the capacity of Liberian health system to respond to the epidemic in the future.
