On September 23, 2021, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia held a virtual reception to solemnly celebrate the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. H.E Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, attended the reception and delivered a speech. Around one hundred people, including Liberian Foreign Minister H.E. Dee-Maxwell Saah Kemayah., the National Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change Hon. Mulbah K Morlu, guests from all walks of life such as the Liberian Legislature, political parties, media, think tanks, diplomatic corps, and representatives of international organizations in Liberia, as well as representatives of overseas Chinese and Chinese-funded institutions in Liberia, gathered together online. The reception was presided over by Mr. Xu Kun, Political Counselor of the Embassy, and attended by National Defense Attaché Han Xiao.

The reception solemnly kicked off with the national anthems of China and Liberia. Then a video clip produced by the embassy was played, which reviewed the brilliant struggle of the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) in uniting and leading the people of all ethnic groups across the country from standing up, getting prosperous, and becoming strong, demonstrated the high spirit and the united efforts of New China and the people to overcome difficulties, and the great achievements in economic and social development that have been achieved, and presented the historical moments of the exchanges between leaders of the two countries and the important achievements of the friendly cooperation between the two countries in recent years.

Ambassador Ren Yisheng delivered a passionate speech stating that 2021 is the 100th anniversary of the CPC. In the past 100 years, the CPC has united and led the Chinese people to achieve great achievements in revolution, construction and reform. President Xi Jinping solemnly declared to the world that China has achieved its first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in an all-round way, historically solved the problem of absolute poverty, and continued to move towards the second centenary goal of building a modern socialist country in an all-round way. China has contributed more than 30% to world economic growth for 10 plus years. Since the beginning of this year, China's economy has continued to strengthen, stabilize and improve, contributing to China's efforts to promote the recovery of the global economy after the pandemic.

2021 is an extraordinary year for people all over the world.  The COVID-19 pandemic is undergoing many twists and turns, including the constant mutations of the virus. Controlling the pandemic still poses a daunting challenge. While fighting COVID-19 at home, China has provided 2 billion US dollars in assistance for the COVID-19 response and economic and social recovery in developing countries hit by the pandemic, and has sent a large amount of anti-epidemic medical supplies to more than 150 countries and 13 international organizations. Up to now, China has provided a total of 770 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines and concentrates to more than 100 countries and international organizations. Recently, President Xi Jinping announced that this year China will provide 2 billion doses of vaccine to the world and donate 100 million US dollars to the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX). This will make new contribution to the global cooperation against COVID-19.

Ambassador Ren emphasized that as a responsible major country, China has been actively participating in global scientific origins tracing cooperation with a scientific attitude, and opposes politicization of origins tracing that goes against the WHA resolution. China is willing to work with all countries in the world, including Liberia, to build a community of health for all. Ambassador Ren said that China and Africa, China and Liberia have joined hands in fighting the pandemic to write a new chapter in our friendship. China will continue to support African countries including Liberia with practical actions to fight the pandemic and carry out pragmatically the concept of constructing a China-Africa and a China-Liberian community with a shared future.

Ambassador Ren put forward "Three Proposals" for the development of China-Liberian relations. The first is to join hands with Liberia to build a global community of health for all. China is ready to continue to actively provide anti-epidemic assistance to Liberia, so as to help Liberia overcome the epidemic as soon as possible and smoothly resume economic and social production. The second is to join hands with Liberia to open up new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation. It is recommended that the two countries seize the opportunity of the new session of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) to strengthen strategic docking with the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development and further deepen bilateral pragmatic cooperation in various fields. The third is to join hands with Liberia to realize the beautiful dreams of the two peoples. The Chinese government always takes the people as the center and regards the people's longing for a better life as its fundamental goal. The two sides should deepen cooperation on more projects related to improving people's livelihood and enhancing people's well-being, and jointly realize the beautiful dream of the two peoples to pursue a happy life.

In his speech, President Weah expressed warm congratulations on behalf of the government and people of Liberia on the occasion of the 72nd anniversary of the founding of New China, and asked Ambassador Ren to convey his sincere greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping and the Chinese people, and sincere thanks to the Chinese government and people for their tremendous contributions to Liberia's hard-won peace and stability and its economic and social development. President Weah stated that China is a sincere and reliable good friend and good partner of Liberia. In recent years, the mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries in various fields has been fruitful. China has provided valuable assistance to Liberia's fight against the pandemic, and has provided important support for its infrastructure construction, investment and financing, and economic and social development, especially the promotion of the "the Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development." The Liberian government and people cherish and attach great importance to relations with China, and will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China policy. Liberia is willing to work hand in hand with China to continuously enhance political mutual trust, actively expand mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields, and promote the continuous achievement of new results in the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries.

Participating guests enjoyed online video clips produced by the embassy. The guests offered sincere blessings to New China on her birthday and expressed their best wishes for the fruitful cooperation between China and Liberia and the everlasting friendship between the two peoples. The reception ended successfully in a friendly and warm atmosphere.

Liberian Vice President H.E. Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor recorded a special video and extended her warm congratulations to the 72nd anniversary of the founding of New China.
