2021-12-05 01:32

On December 2, the Chinese embassy in Liberia held an online meeting with the Liberia media. Ambassador Ren Yisheng gave a comprehensive introduction to the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the centenary of the founding of the CPC, the establishment of a moderately prosperous society in all respects, poverty alleviation, ecological and environmental protection, Xinjiang development achievements, the 8th Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China-Liberia relations and pragmatic cooperation, and answered questions from reporters. More than 50 people attended the meeting, including reporters from Liberian mainstream media such as LBS, "Heritage", "Daily Observer", "News", “The Inquirer” etc, Liberian government officials, political party representatives, relevant experts and scholars, Press Union of Liberia, Chinese Alumni Association, Liberia-China Friendship Association, and representatives of Chinese and foreign teachers and students from the Confucius Institute of the University of Liberia. Political Counselor Xu Kun, Economic and Commercial Counselor Li Jiang from the Chinese embassy were present.

Ambassador Ren said that in 2021, the CPC celebrates its centenary of its founding. Over the past 100 years, under the strong leadership of the CPC, and through the continuous struggle of the entire Party and people of all ethnic groups, China has achieved its first centenary goal and is moving towards the second centenary goal of building a socialist modern country in all respects. Not long ago, the Sixth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC was successfully convened, which comprehensively summarized the Party’s major achievements and historical experience in a century of struggle, and decided to convene the 20th National Congress of the CPC in the second half of 2022.

Ambassador Ren introduced China's efforts and achievements on epidemic prevention and control, resumption of work and production, assistance of anti-epidemic materials and vaccines to relevant countries and international organizations, and promotion of international cooperation under the “Belt and Road” initiative. He emphasized that China's development not only benefits the Chinese people, but also provides more opportunities and injects strong impetus to the region and the world.

Ambassador Ren focused on the eighth Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC, which was successfully held a few days ago, in particular, the four-point proposals put forward by President Xi Jinping in his keynote speech at the opening ceremony for jointly building a China-Africa community with a shared future in the new era , as well as China's new measures to implement “Nine Programs” to help Africa maintain peace and stability, and achieve prosperity and development. Ambassador Ren stressed that the Conference demonstrated the strong willingness of China and Africa to overcome difficulties and seek common development, and showed the huge potential and broad prospects of China-Africa cooperation.

Ambassador Ren said that in recent years, under the leadership of President Xi Jinping and President George Manneh Weah, China and Liberia have carried out all-round cooperation under the framework of the FOCAC. The “Belt and Road Initiative” and the “Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development” are effectively docked, and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results. China is willing to work with Liberia to open up new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries on the basis of respecting each other's core interests.

Ambassador Ren also introduced Xinjiang's development achievements and refuted the act of a few Western countries in fabricating lies based on false information and wantonly attacking and discrediting China on Xinjiang-related issues. He emphasized that Xinjiang-related issues are China’s internal affairs that brook no interference by external forces. China firmly opposes the attempts of some Western countries to interfere in China's internal affairs under the guise of human rights and to contain China's development. Ambassador Ren exposed the sinister intentions of a few politicians in the United States and the Western countries to clamor for the so-called "diplomatic boycott" of the Beijing Winter Olympic Games in February next year by politicizing sports.

Regarding the so-called "Summit on Democracy" to be held in the United States, Ambassador Ren pointed out that its essence is to use democracy as a guise to promote the country's geostrategic goals, which is a typical Cold War mentality. China firmly opposes the United States' invitation to the Taiwan authorities to attend the summit in violation of the one-China principle, and no one should underestimate the determination and strong ability of the Chinese people to defend national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ambassador Ren and relevant senior diplomats from the embassy also answered questions from participants on China-Liberia's in-depth development of the "Belt and Road" construction, epidemic prevention and control, economic and trade, and cultural exchanges and other pragmatic cooperation, as well as the development prospects of China-Liberia relations.

The presentation by Ambassador Ren aroused enthusiastic responses from the participants. They spoke highly of the great achievements of the CPC over the past century, thanked the Chinese government and people for their tremendous contributions to Liberia’s hard-won peace and stability and its economic and social development, looked forward to further deepening the friendly and pragmatic cooperation between the two countries and reiterated their firm support for the one-China principle.

Liberian mainstream media reported extensively on the event.
