The Chinese Embassy in Liberia and Chinese-funded enterprises carry out "Beach Clean-up" voluntary environmental protection activities
2021-12-22 01:34

On December 19th, staff members of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, China Gezhouba (CGG) Mining Services Company, Chongqing International Construction Corporation (CICO), and China Henan International Corporation (CHICO) jointly launched a "Beach Clean-up" voluntary environmental protection activity to clean up the beach garbage in Congo Town in order to improve the community's sanitation environment, and raise public awareness of environmental protection.

Ambassador Ren Yisheng said that the beach garbage not only pollutes the environment and harms health, but also hinders the production and operation and daily life of neighboring enterprises and residents. The purpose of the embassy to organize this activity is to improve the beach environment, maintain community hygiene, and raise public awareness of environmental protection. This is also a vivid manifestation of China's support for the social and economic development of Liberia, promoting friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries, and jointly building a community of shared future for China and Liberia.

Ambassador Ren said that at the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation that was successfully held not long ago, President Xi Jinping delivered a keynote speech at the opening ceremony and put forward four proposals for jointly building a China-Africa community with a shared future and the “nine projects” in the new era. This reflects the strong readiness of China and Africa to overcome the difficulties and seek common development, and demonstrates the huge potential and broad prospects of China-Africa cooperation. In recent years, China and Liberia have achieved remarkable results in infrastructure construction, people-to-people exchanges, human resources development, and anti-epidemic cooperation. China will continue to take concrete actions to promote China-Africa and China-Liberia friendly cooperation.

Ambassador Ren pointed out that Chinese-funded enterprises invest and develop in Liberia, contract projects, and earnestly fulfill their corporate social responsibilities, and make important contributions to increasing employment and improving people’s livelihood. Especially since the outbreak of the Covid-19 epidemic, Chinese-funded enterprises have repeatedly donated living materials to the community, set up local employee clinics, helped build schools, and provided free anti-epidemic materials. Ambassador Ren hoped that Chinese-funded enterprises will continue to abide by host country laws, operate in compliance and integrity, integrate into local communities, and make more contributions to improving the well-being of the two peoples.

Ambassador Ren emphasized that the Chinese Embassy in Liberia is willing to cooperate with Chinese-funded enterprises and overseas Chinese to carry out more and diverse voluntary services, make new contributions to community development and improvement of people's livelihood, and jointly open up new prospects for mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries.

Local media such as "News" and "Heritage" conducted interviews and made reports on this event.
