Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng Attends the Commencement Convocation of Booker Washington Institute and Delivers a Keynote Speech

On February 26, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng was invited to attend the graduation ceremony of Booker Washington College (BWI) in Liberia, delivered a keynote speech, and on behalf of the embassy donated a batch of books and VCDsabout China and football to the Institute, as well as some funds for school clinic expansion. Nearly 1,000 people including the Superintendent of Margibi County, the Mayor of Kakata City, the representatives of the Ministry of Education and other ministries of Liberia, the Principal of BWI, representatives of teachers and students, and parents of students attended the event. Economic and Commercial Counselor Li Jiang of the Chinese Embassy was present.

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Ren introduced to the participants the great successes in revolution, construction and reform that the Communist Party of China (CPC) has led the Chinese people to achieve over the past century, shared China's experience in economic and social development, poverty alleviation, and state governance, so to help better understand China and promote friendly, pragmatic and win-win cooperation between the two countries. Ambassador Ren pointed out that the fraternal friendship and pragmatic cooperation between China and Africa and China and Liberia have a long history. China has always been and will continue to be a good friend of Liberia. By upholding the concept of sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith and following the principle of pursuing the greater good and shared interests, China will  make more efforts to dock the Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) and Forum on China and Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) action plans with African Union Agenda 2063 and Liberias Pro-poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development(PAPD), actively promote the development of China-Africa and China-Liberia comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership, and safeguard the common development of developing countries.

Ambassador Ren emphasized that people-to-people and cultural exchanges are an important means to deepen the understanding and friendship between the two peoples. Over the years, the Chinese government has each year offered dozens of full scholarships and a large number of short-term or long-term training scholarship programs to the Liberian side. Every year, the Chinese embassy also provides Ambassador Scholarships to outstanding students from relevant universities in Liberia. Ambassador Ren said that China is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with BWI.

The participants responded enthusiastically to Ambassador Ren's speech, thanked the Chinese government and people for their strong support and assistance to Liberia's economic and social development, and hoped to further deepen the friendly and pragmatic cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
