Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng Attends Liberia’s PAPD  National Steering Committee Meeting

On April 11, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng attended the first meeting of the National Steering Committee on Liberia's Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development(PAPD). His Excellency Dr. George Manneh Weah, President of the Republic of Liberia, presided over the meeting. About 100 people attended the meeting, including Liberian House Speaker, senior government officials, representatives of public institutions and civil society, ambassadors or representatives of the European Union, France, Germany, Sweden, the United States and other countries in Liberia, as well as the United Nations, ECOWAS, the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund, African Development Bank and other institutions in Liberia, media representatives, etc.

At the meeting, Ambassador Ren shared the remarkable development achievements China has made over the past 40 years of reform and opening up, the pragmatic cooperation outcome between China and Liberia under the framework of the "Belt and Road" initiative and the PAPD, and China's cooperation in food security and other fields in Liberia. Ambassador Ren emphasized that China firmly upholds the international multilateral system with the UN at its core, and is willing to work with the Liberian government and the international community to jointly promote the comprehensive economic and social development of Liberia.

President Weah officially launched the PAPD National Steering Committee mechanism. The Liberian side introduced in detail the efforts, achievements made and challenges faced by the Liberian government in implementing the PAPD under the leadership of President Weah in the past four years, and thanked all parties for their support to Liberia’s peace and development.

Participants also exchanged views on issues of accountability, transparency, anti-corruption and reform.
