On April 14, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng attended the China-aid vehicle handover ceremony to Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Presidential Center for Women and Development at the Chinese Embassy, and donated a mini van to the Center on behalf of the Embassy. Dr. Ophelia Weeks, Director of the Center, Hon. Clarence Moniba, former Liberian Minister without Portfolio, and journalists from mainstream media in Liberia attended the ceremony. 

In his speech, Ambassador Ren shared the remarkable development achievements of the women's cause since the founding of the People's Republic of China 73 years ago and the relevant cooperation between China and Liberia on the protection of women and children. Ambassador Ren expressed his appreciation to former President Sirleaf for her contribution to promoting the cause of women in Liberia. He said that in recent years, the friendly relations between China and Liberia have continued to develop in depth, and pragmatic cooperation in various fields has achieved remarkable results. China will continue to deepen all-round pragmatic cooperation with Liberia, strengthen cooperation in such fields as anti-epidemic, agriculture, infrastructure, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and continue to provide support within its capacity to promote the development of the cause of Liberia's women and children. 

Ms. Weeks, Director of the Center, spoke highly of the achievements of women's cause of China, saying that China has made important contributions to promoting economic and social development and construction in various fields for a long time. On behalf of former President Sirleaf, she thanked the Chinese embassy for its generous assistance to the construction of the Women's Center and Liberian women, and hoped that China would continue to support the development of women's cause in Liberia. 

The two sides also exchanged views on issues such as gender equality, women's empowerment and political participation.
