​Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng Attends the 21st "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students

On May 28, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia and the Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia jointly held the 21st "Chinese Bridge" Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students (Liberia Division). Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng attended the competition via video link and delivered a speech. Mr. Xu Kun, Political Counselor of the embassy was present. More than 50 people participated online or offline, including Hon. Tarnue M. Bongolee, Assistant Minister of Education of Liberia, Mr. Rev. Dr. Julius J.S. Nelson, Jr., President of the University of Liberia, representatives from the friendship associations related with China, the media, participating students, as well as representatives of Chinese-funded enterprises and Cjina-aid institutions in Liberia.

Ambassador Ren elaborated on China's 5,000-year culture, the philosophical thinking of harmony, peace, mutual benefit and win-win results, as well as "One World, One Family" contained in the“Building a Community of Shared Future for Mankind”,“Belt and Road” Initiative, the “Global Development Initiative”, and the “Global Security Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and the progress of China-Liberia friendly and pragmatic cooperation in the new era. Ambassador Ren said that people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Liberia are of great significance to promoting the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries. He hoped that Liberian students could enhance understanding and friendship between China and Liberia by mastering Chinese language. The Chinese side is willing to join hands with the Liberian side to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in various fields and continuously promote the building of a China-Liberia community with a shared future. 

Assistant Minister Bongolee and UL President Nielsen delivered speeches respectively, thanking China for its long-term contribution to promoting the economic and social development of Liberia, appreciating the role of the Confucius Institute at the University of Liberia as a bridge to promote friendship and people-to-people and cultural exchanges between Liberia and China, saying that the "Chinese Bridge" competition is a model of friendly cooperation between the two countries in people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and the Liberian side is willing to continue to strengthen bilateral cooperation in the fields of education and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and continuously promote the development of friendly relations between Liberia and China. 

Through Chinese speeches, knowledge quizzes and talent shows, the contestants showed their Chinese learning achievements, their understanding of Chinese culture, and their appreciation of the joint anti-epidemic and pragmatic cooperation between China and Liberia. The tongue twisters, singing and dancing, martial arts, poetry recitations and other talent shows performed by the contestants won rounds of applause from the audience. Both Chinese and foreign guests expressed that they will continue to contribute to the promotion of Chinese language teaching, the dissemination of Chinese culture, and China-Liberia friendship.
