Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng Attends the Induction Ceremony of the President of the Bomi Community College of Liberia

On June 10, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng was invited to attend the induction ceremony of Dr. Abimelech Paye Gbatu, the new president of Bomi Community College (BCC) who had been trained in China, and donated a batch of computers, printers and books to the school on behalf of the embassy. About 200 people attended the ceremony, including Hon. Edwin Melvin Snowe, Jr., the Senator of the Bomi County, Hon. Adama Jah Robinson, the Superintendent of the Bomi County, Hon. Rev James Andrew Lablah, the proxy of the Director General of National Commission of Higher Education (NCHE), Hon. Alex J. Tyler, former Speaker of the House of the representatives, Bomi County and Tubmanburg City officials, members of the school board, representatives of faculty and students, and representatives of social groups and local media.

Ambassador Ren congratulated Gbatu on being elected as the new president of the Bomi Community College and looked forward to Gbatuleading the school to continuously achieve new development in education. Ambassador Ren shared the achievements made by the Communist Party of China (CPC) which has united and led the people of all ethnic groups in the country to achieve the first centenary goal of building a moderately prosperous society in all respects over the past century, solved the problem of absolute poverty historically, and started a new journey of the second centenary goal of building a great modern socialist country in an all-round way. He also briefed on the incoming 20th National Congress of the CPC in the second half of the year, the outcome of mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation between China and Liberia under the framework of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, the "Nine Programs" of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), the Global Development Initiative (GDI), the Global Security Initiative (GSI) and the "Pro-Poor Agenda for Prosperity and Development ", and the first National Conference on the Right to Development in Liberia co-hosted by the Chinese Embassy and the UN Office of High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Liberia. Ambassador Ren expressed that China is willing to work with Liberia to strengthen pragmatic cooperation in education, people-to-people and cultural exchanges and other fields, and to continuously advance the building of a China-Liberia community with a shared future.

Senator Snowe, Superintendent Robinson, college President Gbatu and others delivered speeches respectively, expressing their sincere admiration for the great development achievements of the Chinese people under the leadership of the CPC, and appreciation to the Chinese side for its long-term great contribution to the economic and social development of Liberia. They said that Liberia is willing to learn from China's successful development experience and strengthen bilateral cooperation in education, infrastructure, economy and trade and other fields, and expected China to support the development of local undertakings in Bomi County, including BCC.

After the ceremony, Ambassador Ren visited the campus accompanied by Dr. Gbatu , interacted with teachers and students of the school cordially, and took interviews with local media.
