On July 1, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng met with Hon. Bhofal Chambers, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Liberia. The two sides exchanged views on China-Liberia relations and cooperation in various fields. Mr. Li Jiang, Economic and Commercial Counselor of the Embassy, was present.

Ambassador Ren commended the Liberian parliament's affirmation of Liberia's position of adhering to the one-China principle through legislation, and briefed that nearly 100 countries supported China's position on human rights issues through joint or individual statements at the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council. He said that China and Liberia should further promote the development of bilateral relations and deepen pragmatic and friendly cooperation in various fields on the basis of mutual respect for sovereignty, non-interference in internal affairs, equality and mutual benefit.

Speaker Chambers reiterated that Liberia will continue to abide by the one-China policy, expressed his sincere admiration for China's approach in treating other countries as equals, and appreciated China's great achievements in economic and social development and promotion and protection of human rights. He hoped to maintain close cooperation with the Chinese side and push forward the development of bilateral relations.
