Chinese Am​bassador Ren Yisheng Meets President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate

On July 14, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia H.E. Ren Yisheng met with Hon. Albert T. Chie, President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate. The two sides exchanged views on China-Liberia relations and cooperation in various fields.  Chairpersons of the Senate Committee in charge of foreign affairs, internal affairs, mines and energy were present.

Ambassador Ren said that under the framework of the "Belt and Road" Initiative (BRI) and the “Nine Progrmas” of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China and Liberia have achieved fruitful outcomes in mutually beneficial and win-win cooperation. He commended the Liberian legislature’s affirmation of Liberia's position of adhering to the one-China principle through legislation, briefed that nearly 100 countries supported China's position on human rights issues through joint or individual statements at the 50th session of the UN Human Rights Council, and expressed that China will, based on the principles of respecting each other's core interests, equality and mutual benefit, promote the development of bilateral relations between China and Liberia and deepen pragmatic and friendly cooperation in various fields including the legislatures.

President Pro-Tempore Chie reiterated that Liberia will continue to abide by the one-China policy and appreciated China's achievements in economic and social development in recent years. He hoped that the exchanges and cooperation with China will be strengthened so as to promote the continuous development of bilateral relations.
