The Chinese Embassy in Liberia holds "Warm Children’s Hearts:A China-Africa Joint Action" event

On June 1st, The Chinese Embassy in Liberia hold the "Warm Children's Hearts: A China-Africa Joint Action" event. This collaborative initiative, organized in partnership with the Office of the Liberian First Lady for Development, took place at the Phebe Gray Memorial Orphanage in Schiefflin town, Margibi County, Liberia. The event was attended by H.E. Mr. Xu Kun, the Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, who generously donated medicine, stationery, and toys to over 120 orphans and disabled children. Additionally, supplies were donated to the Clar Hope Foundation. The 15th Chinese medical team, dispatched by Heilongjiang Province to Liberia, conducted health check-ups and provided medical consultations at the orphanage. In a show of support, a Chinese company in Liberia contributed bottled drinking water and soccer balls to the cause. The donation ceremony, which saw the presence of over 160 individuals, featured distinguished guests such as H.E. Ambassador Clar Marie Weah, the First Lady of the Republic of Liberia, Hon. Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, the Minister of Health of the Republic of Liberia, representatives from the Clar Hope Foundation, and members of the orphanage. Following the ceremony, H.E. Ambassador Clar Marie Weah, accompanied by the Chargé d'affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Liberia, H.E. Mr. Xu Kun, visited the orphanage to further engage with the children and observe their living conditions.


During his speech, H.E. Mr. Xu Kun conveyed the heartfelt concerns of China's First Lady, Professor Peng Liyuan, regarding healthcare in Africa. He emphasized the cherished friendship between China's First Lady and the Liberian First Lady, H.E. Ambassador Clar Marie Weah, and expressed deep appreciation for the Liberian First Lady's dedicated efforts in advancing the welfare of women and children in Liberia. Mr. Xu Kun extended gratitude to the Liberian First Lady for her support of the "Warm Children's Hearts: A China-Africa Joint Action" event and her personal presence at the event. He reiterated China's commitment to collaborate with Liberia in deepening bilateral cooperation in the medical field, enhancing the quality of public health services, promoting the well-being of children in Liberia, strengthening the friendship between China and Liberia, and working together to build a shared future.


During her speech, Hon. Dr. Wilhelmina Jallah, the Minister of Health of Liberia, expressed sincere gratitude to Professor Peng Liyuan and the Chinese government for their selfless assistance and support to Liberia's medical sector. She acknowledged their invaluable contributions and expressed a desire to further enhance bilateral cooperation in the field of healthcare. Minister Jallah emphasized the importance of building upon the existing partnership and fostering greater collaboration to address the healthcare needs of Liberia.


During her address, the Liberian First Lady, H.E. Ambassador Clar Marie Weah, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Professor Peng Liyuan for her enduring care and support for women and children in Liberia. She also extended gratitude to the Chinese government for its selfless assistance to Liberia. Drawing inspiration from the Chinese saying "It takes ten years to grow a tree, but a hundred years to nurture a man," she conveyed her gratitude to the Chinese medical team for their charitable clinic and expressed hopes for the healthy growth of the children, who would later contribute to the development of their country. The Liberian First Lady further conveyed President Weah's deep appreciation to President Xi Jinping, Professor Peng Liyuan, and the Chinese people for their longstanding support to Liberia in various areas, including infrastructure, economic development, and social progress.

This year marks the momentous 60th anniversary of the Chinese government dispatching medical teams to Africa. In anticipation of International Children's Day, China's first Lady, Professor Peng Liyuan, joined hands with the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) to initiate the "Warm Children's Hearts: A China-Africa Joint Action" campaign. The primary objective of this campaign is to provide essential healthcare to African orphans, conveying warmth and care to these children while promoting their overall health and well-being. The campaign also aims to contribute to the construction of a healthy society and the development of a shared future.

Madam Monica Geingos, the President-in-Office of OAFLAD and the First Lady of the Republic of Namibia, along with other members of OAFLAD, responded positively to the initiative. They expressed their profound appreciation for Professor Peng Liyuan's longstanding concern and support for the development of women and children in Africa. Furthermore, they sincerely thanked China for its enduring and selfless assistance, which has proven invaluable to Africa over the years.
