On May 20, the Chinese Embassy in Liberia held a reception with the theme "Keeping in Mind the Original Aspiration of China-Liberia Relations to Move Forward Together". More than 150 people attended the reception, including Hon. Cllr. Jonathan Fonati Koffa, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, President Pro-Tempore of the Senate, Hon. Cllr. Deweh E. Gray, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as government officials, legislators and former government officials. Ambassador Yin Chengwu, Speaker Koffa and Acting Minister Gray delivered speeches respectively. Ambassador Yin reviewed the results of cooperation between the two countries since the establishment and resumption of diplomatic relations. He appreciated the Liberian side's adherence to the one-China principle, emphasized that the root cause of the great progress in China-Liberia relations lies in the two countries' adherence to the original aspiration, in respecting and supporting each other in safeguarding their core interests. He also and expressed the Chinese side's willingness to work with the Liberian side in writing a new chapter of friendship between the two countries. Speaker Koffa and Acting Minister Gray said the Liberian side appreciates China's contribution to the development of the country, President Boakai is a strong supporter of the one-China principle, and the Liberian side will continue to adhere to the one-China principle and deepen cooperation with China in various fields for the benefit of its people. The participants highly praised the China-Liberia relations, and several former foreign ministers of Liberia collectively reaffirmed their adherence to the one-China principle during the group photo. |
