On October 14, 2020 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and President Bounnhang Vorachit met with visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Vientiane.

Wang Yi conveyed cordial greetings of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to Bounnhang. Wang Yi said, the COVID-19 does not affect the relationship between the LPRP and the CPC as well as the two countries, but makes the traditional friendship between China and Laos withstand tests and grow stronger and deeper. The two sides have supported each other and united together in time of difficulty, effectively bringing the pandemic under control. These efforts reflect their governance capacity and people-centered governance philosophy, as well as the spirit of building a community with a shared future. China is willing to work with Laos to develop their traditional friendship, strengthen mutual trust, and consolidate solidarity and mutual assistance, so as to advance the goal of building the China-Laos community with a shared future set by our two heads of state, and deepen the relations between the two parties and the two countries to benefit the two peoples.

Wang Yi added, in face of post-pandemic challenges, the two sides should coordinate epidemic control with economic growth, and continue to strengthen joint prevention and control. Under the spirit of building the China-Laos community with a shared future, China is ready to provide China-developed COVID-19 vaccines, once available to Laos as a priority recipient, accelerate cooperation on jointly promoting the Belt and Road Initiative through leveraging the China-Laos Economic Corridor, and expand bilateral trade and investment to help Laos develop economy and improve livelihood. China appreciates that Laos firmly stands with China on issues involving its core interests and major concerns. It will work together with Laos to strengthen solidarity and cooperation to address all challenges and deliver their common goals and undertakings.

Bounnhang asked Wang Yi to convey his heartfelt greetings to General Secretary and President Xi Jinping. Bounnhang said, Laos-China relations have been developing with a positive momentum despite the pandemic. The LPRP, the Lao government and people thank the brotherly CPC, the Chinese government and people for the great support in Laos' fight against the COVID-19. The two sides have also been pushing forward cooperation projects earnestly, which fully demonstrates the common ideals and goals between the two countries and peoples. Laos is ready to work with China to push for new progress of cooperation in existing areas and expand new cooperation fields to further deepen our comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership. Laos firmly supports China in safeguarding its legitimate rights and interests, and stands with China to jointly build the Laos-China community with a shared future.

On the same day, Wang Yi also met with Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith, and held talks with Foreign Minister Saleumxay Kommasith.
