Xi Jinping Meets with Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi

On the afternoon of January 17, 2020 local time, after President Xi Jinping attended a welcome ceremony hosted by Myanmar President U Win Myint at the President's Office in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi came to the President's Office to extend her welcome and greetings to Xi Jinping.

Aung San Suu Kyi extended her warm welcome to President Xi Jinping's state visit to Myanmar, and expressed that it has been a long-awaited state visit to the Myanmar side. The visit of President Xi Jinping, ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year and against the backdrop of the 70th anniversary of the Myanmar-China diplomatic relations, bears special significance. The Myanmar side appreciates and cherishes the Chinese side's long-term and huge support. The "pauk-phaw" friendship between Myanmar and China has stood the test of time, and its profound meaning could only be appreciated by our two countries. China has always been a good friend to Myanmar and the two countries have been bound together. The Myanmar side stands ready to keep sharing weal and woe and build a community with a shared future with the Chinese side. Aung San Suu Kyi believed, President Xi Jinping's visit will usher in new development in bilateral relations.

Xi Jinping appreciated the hospitality of the Myanmar government and people. Xi Jinping expressed, it is my first visit to Myanmar as Chinese President and my first overseas trip in 2020, during which the two countries will celebrate and launch a series of events marking the 70th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic relations. This will be of great significance. The Chinese side staunchly supports Myanmar in following the development path of its own choice, and stands ready to consolidate and deepen the "pauk-phaw" friendship between the two countries and the two peoples, keep enriching its connotation and jointly build a China-Myanmar community with a shared future.
