Xi Jinping Arrives in Nay Pyi Taw for a State Visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar
2020-01-17 13:43

On the afternoon of January 17, 2020 local time, President Xi Jinping arrived at the Nay Pyi Taw International Airport by a special plane, starting his state visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar.

Two Myanmar fighter jets took off to escort Xi Jinping's special plane as it entered Myanmar's airspace.

When Xi Jinping arrived, Myanmar Vice President U Myint Swe led a number of Cabinet Ministers to greet him at the gangway. Xi Jinping was also presented with flowers by Myanmar children; Myanmar youths lined up along the streets and dressed in the traditional costumes of various ethnic groups greeted Xi Jinping; and the guard of honor lined up on both sides of the red carpet saluted to Xi Jinping. Local artists and college students performed traditional songs and dances with strong ethnic characteristics. Myanmar teenagers waved the national flags of China and Myanmar and hailed "Long live China-Myanmar friendship" and "Wish you good health, President Xi" in Myanmar language, to extend the sincerest welcome to Xi Jinping. Xi Jinping smiled and waved to them.

Xi Jinping's motorcade left the airport for the city. A red banner reading "Warmly Welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping to Myanmar" and "The Republic of the Union of Myanmar Pays High Tribute to His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People's Republic of China" hung above the airport gate. On both sides of the road, the national flags of China and Myanmar fluttered in the wind. The huge portrait of Xi Jinping and the giant poster with slogan "China-Myanmar 'Pauk-Phaw' Friendship Will Last Forever" and "China-Myanmar Friendly Cooperation Will Continue to Develop" stood out. With local people singing and dancing and young students waving the national flags of China and Myanmar, Myanmar people welcomed their most distinguished guest in their simple and warm way.

On behalf of the Chinese government and people, Xi Jinping extended sincere greetings and best wishes to the Myanmar government and people. Xi Jinping pointed out, China and Myanmar are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers and the two peoples enjoy profound "pauk-phaw" friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations 70 years ago, China and Myanmar have upheld the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence jointly advocated by the two countries and pushed for new achievements in exchanges and cooperation in various fields. I look forward to exchanging in-depth views with the Myanmar leaders on bilateral relations and topics of common interest, carrying forward the "pauk-phaw" friendship, enhancing comprehensive strategic cooperation and pushing China-Myanmar relations to a new level and into a new era.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi, He Lifeng and other delegation members arrived in Nay Pyi Taw by the same plane.

H.E. Chen Hai, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar, also greeted President Xi Jinping at the airport.
