On October 27, 2021 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Dendias in Athens.

Wang Yi said, Greece is the first stop of his visit to Europe, showing that China attaches great importance to China-Greece relations. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties, China and Greece have always adhered to the historical perspective, followed the trend of the times and respected, understood, trusted and supported each other, setting a good example for exchanges between different countries and between different civilizations. The two sides should continue to support each other's core interests and major concerns, further deepen practical cooperation in all areas and push for new progress in the comprehensive strategic partnership.

Wang Yi said, Greece is an important partner in building the Belt and Road. China is pleased to see that the Port of Piraeus Port, a symbol of bilateral cooperation and a flagship project of Belt and Road cooperation, is moving forward smoothly, significantly boosting Greek development. China is ready to work with Greece to build the Port of Piraeus into a world-class port with diverse functions of inland ports and sea ports. Both sides will continue high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, advance the compilation of implementation plans for intergovernmental cooperation, and expand Belt and Road cooperation in key areas and increase mutual investment. China welcomes Greek enterprises to actively participate in the China International Import Expo and hopes Greece will continue to provide an open and fair market environment for Chinese enterprises.

Wang Yi said, China and Greece share many common development concepts. China welcomes Greece's active participation in the Global Development Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping, and its joint contribution to accelerating the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Dendias said, Greece values and applauds the Global Development Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping. Dendias said, Greece-China relations have become closer and stronger in the joint fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Greece is ready to continue to support each other and strengthen communication and coordination with China on international and multilateral affairs. Both sides completed the flame-lighting and handover for the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games and jointly build the Port of Piraeus a successful model for Greece-China cooperation. Greece is pleased with and proud of this achievement. Greece believes that China's future is unlimited, and it is full of confidence in the development of bilateral relations. Greece will implement key Belt and Road cooperation projects, looks forward to further expanding cooperation with China in fields such as economy, trade, energy, maritime transport and shipbuilding, and welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Greece.

The two sides agree to jointly host the China-Greece Year of Culture and Tourism, and strengthen exchanges at the sub-national level.

While talking about China-EU relations, Wang Yi said, China and the EU are partners and collaborators, not rivals and competitors. China always supports the EU in its development, integration process and enhancing strategic autonomy. China and the EU should respect each other, conduct exchanges on an equal footing, enhance understanding and manage differences. At present, it is especially important to guard against and prevent the attempts of some individual countries to challenge the one-China principle and undermine the political mutual trust between China and Europe. Dendias agreed with this, and he emphasized, EU-China cooperation enjoys broad prospects and will help the EU become an independent and strong international power.

The two sides also exchanged views on Afghanistan, the Eastern Mediterranean, Libya and other issues of common concern.
