2022-05-30 14:07

On May 30, 2022 local time, Fijian President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere met with visiting State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in the Office of the President in Suva.

Katonivere asked Wang Yi to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping and congratulated the Communist Party of China (CPC) on the centenary of its founding last year. He expressed his admiration for President Xi Jinping's outstanding leadership and China's great achievements. He thanked China for its selfless support and assistance for a long time, which has enabled Fiji to accelerate economic development and improve people's living standards. Fiji and China enjoy a long history of friendly exchanges and Fiji is proud of its strong relations with China. Fiji will continue to firmly pursue the one-China principle, deepen cooperation in various fields and achieve common development and prosperity.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's cordial greetings to President Katonivere, saying that the CPC is committed to lasting greatness for the Chinese nation and its centenary is in its prime. The CPC adheres to the guidance of advanced Marxist theory, has the courage to undertake self-reform, and has always maintained its vigor and vitality, which has won extensive support from the Chinese people. Under the leadership of President Xi Jinping, China has found a development path suited to its national conditions and achieved the two miracles of long-term social stability and rapid economic growth. We have achieved the first centenary goal and eradicated absolute poverty, and are taking solid steps towards the second centenary goal. The realization of common prosperity and modernization by the 1.4 billion Chinese people, who account for one-fifth of the world's population, will make a significant contribution to human development and progress.

Wang Yi stressed, China's development and revitalization is a common achievement of developing countries and increases the forces for world peace. It means that China will have more resources and more vigorously safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries on the international stage. For this reason, some forces do not want to see China's development and growth and seek to contain, delay or even interrupt China's development process. But the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is irreversible. China will continue to trust and support each other with other developing countries, strengthen solidarity and achieve common development.

Wang Yi said, since the establishment of China-Fiji diplomatic ties 47 years ago, bilateral relations have withstood various risks and challenges. No matter how the international and regional situation may change, China will always pursue a friendly policy towards Fiji, and support Fiji in achieving prosperity and strength and playing a bigger role in the regional and international arena. China is ready to carry out more livelihood projects with Fiji, implement the cooperation on Juncao that President Xi Jinping personally cares about, and bring more tangible benefits to the Fijian people.
