On July 26, 2022, Premier Li Keqiang sent a congratulatory message to Dinesh Gunawardena on his assumption of office as Prime Minister of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka.

Li Keqiang said in his message that China and Sri Lanka enjoy profound traditional friendship, and are friendly neighbors and strategic cooperative partners. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 65 years ago, the two countries have always respected each other and treated each other equally, continuously consolidated political mutual trust and enhanced mutually beneficial cooperation, and worked hand in hand to address difficulties and challenges. Bilateral relations have developed in a sound and stable way. China firmly supports the friendly cooperation between the two countries, identifies with the Sri Lankan people in terms of the temporary difficulties they are facing, and is willing to continue to provide support and assistance within its capacity for the Sri Lankan people. I am willing to work with Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to strengthen the unity and mutual assistance among developing countries, deepen practical cooperation in all areas, and deliver more benefits for the two countries and two peoples.
