Li Keqiang Speaks with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh via Phone

On the afternoon of September 19, 2022, Premier Li Keqiang had a phone conversation with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at Ziguangge of Zhongnanhai at  request.

Li Keqiang said, China and Vietnam are friendly neighbors linked by mountains and rivers. General Secretary Xi Jinping and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong have maintained frequent communication, and it gives a strong boost to the development of bilateral relations. China is ready to work with Vietnam to strengthen exchanges at all levels and deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, so as to bring benefits to the two peoples and contribute to maintaining regional peace and stability and promoting common development and prosperity.

Li Keqiang pointed out that now the world is beset by sluggish economic recovery and the intertwined impact of various uncertainties and complex factors. Affected by unexpected factors, the Chinese economy is withstanding downward pressure, with intensified efforts being made to stabilize employment and prices. Major economic indicators are kept within an appropriate range, generally showing a recovery momentum. China is glad to see Vietnam's steady economic growth, which will also contribute to the stability of East Asia's industrial and supply chains. We are ready to work with Vietnam to give play to the complementary industrial advantages, expand economic and trade cooperation, ensure smooth customs clearance at border ports, and import more marketable quality agricultural products from Vietnam. On the premise of ensuring COVID-related safety, all Vietnamese students wishing to return to China to resume studies are welcome to do so, and the number of direct flights between the two countries will be increased.

Li Keqiang stressed that peace and stability in the South China Sea serve the common interests of all parties. China is ready to work with ASEAN countries to take the 20th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea as an opportunity to reach a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea at an early date, leverage all parties' wisdom, bear in mind the big picture, advance cooperation, and manage differences, so as to build the South China Sea into a sea of peace, friendship and cooperation.

Pham Minh Chinh said that consolidating and developing the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership is the top priority of Vietnam's foreign policy. Vietnam is willing to work with China to maintain regular high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic coordination, properly handle differences, and promote sustained and in-depth cooperation between Vietnam and China in key areas such as trade and investment, customs clearance and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, so as to bring more positive outcomes to bilateral relations.
