Distinguished Mr. J.H. Webster Clayeh, President-elect of the Reporters Association of Liberia, Media friends, Ladies and gentlemen,
Good evening! It is a great honor to attend the 7th induction ceremony of the Reporters Association of Liberia (RAL). First, I would like to extend warm congratulations to the new leadership of the RAL and applaud all the journalists who have long devoted themselves to Liberian journalism. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the journalist friends. It is your reports that have vividly presented China and China-Liberia relationship to the Liberian people.
The RAL is a highly influential organization in the country’s press circle. Over the years, it has played a pivotal role in safeguarding press freedom and advancing professional standards throughout the media sector. The theme of today’s event, “Shaping the future of Liberian Journalism Through Inclusion, Welfare and Reform”, fully embodies the Association’s reflection on and commitment to the development of the media sector, which is commendable.
Among the newly elected leadership, President-elect Clayeh, Mr. Blamo N. Toe, Secretary-General-elect, and Ms. Cynthia Quinisier, Financial Secretary-elect, along with many other journalists present today, attended a seminar on media in China last year. Upon their return, many reporters told me that it was their first trip to China. While sharing their wonderful stories, they found China to be quite different from what they had expected. They were deeply amazed, asking why China has achieved such remarkable development and what lies behind its success. I think they posed a serious question, which reflects the journalist’s pursuit of objective truth. And my answer to this is the Communist Party of China (CPC).
This year marks the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC. Two weeks ago, we celebrated this momentous event with H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai at my Embassy. Many of you were also present. To understand China, one must understand the CPC.
First, the CPC serves the people wholeheartedly. The CPC always adheres to its fundamental purpose of serving the people. After the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC), the CPC led the people to accomplish an industrialization process in just a few decades that took developed countries hundreds of years. In doing so, they built the world's second-largest economy, along with the world's largest education, social security, and healthcare systems. They have been lifted more than 800 million people out of poverty.
Second, the CPC is courageous in the struggle. Since its founding in 1921, the CPC has upheld and carried forward its spirit of fearlessness and heroic struggle, defying every difficulty it has encountered. According to incomplete statistics, from 1921 to the founding of the PRC in 1949, more than 3.7 million identified CPC members sacrificed their lives in the revolutionary struggle. In the new Era's battle against poverty, more than 1,800 Party members gave their lives. It is this fighting spirit that has enabled the CPC to continuously advance from victory to victory.
Third, the CPC attaches great importance to its own building. The Party is adept at examining itself against the demands of the times, alerting itself with a keen sense of adversity, and improving itself through the spirit of self-reform. For more than a century, the CPC has adhered to self-examination and self-correction, resolutely said no to any factors that undermine the Party's advanced nature and purity, resolutely eliminated all viruses that erode the Party's healthy body, and resolutely adopted zero tolerance for corruption, thus forging itself into a stronger and more powerful force.
Fourth, the CPC stands independent and self-reliant. Given a civilization history of over 5,000 years, a population of hundreds of millions, and now over 1.4 billion, a land area of over 9.6 million square kilometers, and 56 ethnic groups—whose model can we follow? And who can tell us what to do? The CPC maintains that China must stand on its own feet, that China's affairs must be decided and handled by the Chinese people themselves. Thus, the CPC steadfastly adheres to the path of socialism with Chinese characteristics.
Fifth, the CPC maintains a global vision. Mindful of the common interests of all humanity, the CPC develops keen insight into the trends of human development and progress, responds to the general concerns of people of all countries, and plays its part in resolving the common issues facing humankind. It promotes the building of a community with a shared future for humanity. Now, Socialist China under the CPC's leadership is widely recognized as a builder of world peace, a contributor to global development, and a defender of the international order.
This is the story of the CPC—a party with over 50 members at its founding that, through 105 years of unyielding struggle, has grown into the largest governing party in the world and enjoys tremendous international influence, with more than 100 million members. This is the story of China—a once-impoverished nation that has steadily risen to the center of the world stage. Today, this story continues to unfold, writing new and glorious chapters. We welcome Liberian journalists to witness and record this ongoing journey with professional insight and objective, impartial reporting, present an accurate picture of China to the public, thereby fostering mutual understanding and deepening friendship between the two peoples.
Finally, I wish the new leadership of the RAL every success.
Thank you. |
