Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Jiang Yu's Remarks on Japan Hit by Massive Earthquake

Q:On March 11, a huge 8.8-magnitude earthquake hit northeast Japan, triggering powerful tsunami and causing great losses. What's China's comment on that?

A: China expresses great concern and deep sympathy over the casualties and major property losses canused by the massive earthquake that hit Japan today. Premier Wen Jiabao and Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi have sent telegraphs to Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and Foreign Minister Takeaki Matsumoto respectively, conveying deep condolences to the Japanese Government and people on behalf of the Chinese Government and people,and expressing China's willingness to provide necessary help.

China has already expressed to Japan the readiness to send rescue and medical teams in order to assist with the relief work.
